Material Disease

Indian man (2): Srila Prabhupada, there's one thing in the human nature, that he always thinks that he's the chief and around the world everything is running around him, and most probably he always can show off that "I am the leader of everything." Why is it so? In every person.

Prabhupada: That is the disease, material disease. That is material disease. Everyone wants to become Krsna. Nobody wants to serve Krsna. That is material. Kartaham iti manyate. Ahankara-vimudhatma. Rascal bewildered by false egotism, he's thinking "I am everything." That is material life. And when by cultivation of knowledge, good association, you come to the conclusion that "I am not everything, Krsna is everything; I am His servant," then perfection. Otherwise he's in the maya-cakra.

Indian man (2): Is this related to the past, Srila Prabhupada?

Prabhupada: That is the material disease. When you contaminate some disease, do not try to find out the history. Treat the disease. That is intelligence. How I got this disease, instead of inquiring, better treat the disease. That is intelligence. Go to the doctor and get treatment and cure it.

Actually there is no way

Dayananda: So actually there is no way to become detached.

Prabhupada: The only way is that you become Krsna conscious.

Dayananda: Except through Krsna.

Prabhupada: Yes. Mam eva ye prapadyante. You surrender to Krsna and everything will be clear, just like as soon as the sun rises, everything is clear, no covering. That is our propaganda, that you become Krsna conscious; then you become fully aware of everything. Otherwise you remain rascal, fools, gadha, asses. If you prefer to remain asses, you can do so, but we are servant of Krsna. We must preach real, reality.

Dayananda: Even the jnanis and yogis become...

Prabhupada: What is these jnanis? They are also another rascal, another edition of rascals. Bahunam janmanam ante jnanavan mam prapadyate [Bg. 7.19]. Therefore so-called jnanis, after many, many births' practical realization, they surrender to Krsna. Vasudevah sarvam iti sa mahatma [Bg. 7.19]. Then he understands that Krsna is everything. But such great person is very, very rare. Sa mahatma sudurlabhah, very, very rare.

Dayananda: But what about the persons who may be a little bit devoted but who have not achieved that unalloyed devotion?

Prabhupada: Kanistha-adhikari. They are not devotees, but they are called bhaktabhasa. There is some signs of bhakti. Actually they are not bhakta. Bhaktabhasa. Abhasa. Abhasa means a simple, a little light.

Hrdayananda: So devotee really means one who has love for Krsna.

Prabhupada: Yes, unalloyed, without any condition. Anyabhilasita-sunyam [Brs. 1.1.11], zero, all other, that "I am this, I am that, I am jnani, I am yogi, I am karmi, I am minister, I am king" -- all these are thinking like that, they're all nonsense. "I am servant of Krsna" -- that is greatness. Jivera svarupa haya nitya-krsna-dasa [Cc. Madhya 20.108-109]. That is self-realization, atma-tattvam.

Dayananda: So because that person is very rare, then, I guess, the only way we can possibly know how to become like that is to find one pure devotee and exactly follow that way of Krsna consciousness that he has.

Prabhupada: Hm?

Dayananda: I mean to say that because a pure devotee is so rare, the only way must be to find out a pure devotee and exactly follow.

Prabhupada: Yes. If you try to find out...

“Man came from Ape, so why Man is not coming now from Ape?”

Prabhupada: Man came from ape, so why man is not coming now from ape? Hm?

Harikesa: It only happened once, and that was enough to start the whole thing.

Pusta Krsna: It had to happen at least twice.

Prabhupada: That is another rascaldom. We see the flowers and fruits are coming every season. Why once? This is dogmatic, we have to accept? Our experience is that by nature’s way we find the same flower is coming again in the same season.

Pusta Krsna: Well, actually Darwin said that there’s a missing link.

Prabhupada: You rascal, you say that. What is that missing link? Simply bluffing, and it is going on in the name of science. Just see the fun. Simply misleading, and people are so rascal, this civilized man, so-called, he is accepting as great theory.

Pusta Krsna: Accepting?

Prabhupada: This Darwin’s theory as very big invention or discovery. Simply childish rascaldom. There is no reason; there is no sense. Man came from monkey — why not coming now? Stop once. So what kind of men came first?

Pusta Krsna: First there was very primitive man.

Prabhupada: No, primitive…

Pusta Krsna: They think that he resembles a monkey very much.

Prabhupada: So there are in Africa these men. They resemble that, what is called? That animal?

Pusta Krsna: Gorilla.

Prabhupada: Gorilla. So these men are still existing. But why from gorilla they do not come?

Pusta Krsna: They don’t come from the gorilla.

Prabhupada: Africans, I have seen, they look like gorilla. So why now from gorilla the Africans or any black man is not coming? Then the question is the black man… We have got experience. The black man come. And where from the white man came? Is there any white gorilla?

Pusta Krsna: No.

Prabhupada: No. Then white man, how did he come?

Harikesa: Well, sometimes there is a freak of nature, and the pigments that are in the skin…
Prabhupada: Simply it is for Darwin, “sometime.” To support his rascaldom, nature has to serve him “sometimes. “Just see. We have to believe. Nature’s law is the same, symmetrical. Nature is not obliged to serve Mr. Darwin, the rascal. Sometimes. He says, “sometimes.” He did, and he knew it only and nobody knew. We have to believe that. Sometimes it was done, and it was revealed to Darwin. How he came to know? Nobody could understand. Only Darwin could understand? There was no other?

Pusta Krsna: They use the same argument against us, though, that… They use the same argument against us that so few people can understand God…

Prabhupada: No. We don’t say like that. We say that God first spoke to sun-god, and sun-god spoke to his son, Manu, and Manu spoke to Iksvaku, Iksvaku spoke to his son. In this way are there. We don’t say, “The God spoke to me.” Evam parampara praptam, that is quite reasonable. God said to Brahma, and the Brahma said to Narada, Narada said to Vyasadeva, Vyasadeva said to others. In this way we should know. If my father said to my forefather… My forefather said to my father or my grandfather, and the same news is coming in family way, then where is the wrong? We don’t say, “Darwin simply knew it.” No, we don’t say that. Evam parampara praptam. He was a rascal number one, all these scientists, the so-called scientists.

Pusta Krsna: But how can we prove Krsna scientifically?

Prabhupada: First of all let them prove their theory. Then we shall prove ours. We are proving. We have got our own way. But why they are speaking all this nonsense? First of all let him prove that he is genuine. Then our turn will be next. Ours is very easy. Krsna said to sun-god, and sun-god said to his son, his son, his son. It is coming like that. Where is the difficulty? Again Krsna says, “Now it is mismanaged. It is lost, so I am saying again to you Arjuna.” So what Arjuna has understood, we are understanding the same way. How Arjuna understood it, that is written in the Bhagavad-gita. Where is the… We have no difficulty. But you jump over: “There is link,” that “Once only from monkey came.” What is this nonsense? We have to believe this? Has it any sense? And because Mr. Darwin is speaking we have to accept it? We cannot…

Harikesa: Well, certain changes take place. Just like when it is very hot, if you are in a hot climate all the time your blood thins.

Prabhupada: That’s all right. No, no. This is not…

Harikesa: Well, if you take that further, all of these changes that mount up to some big physical change.

Prabhupada: No change is taken. The nature is working symmetrically always. The sun is rising in the morning. That is going on for million, million, million, millions of years.

Harikesa: Gradually the change has taken place in a very scientific way, step by step.

Prabhupada: What change has taken place?

Harikesa: First the hairs fell off…

Prabhupada: Morning… In the morning the sun rises on the eastern side. That is going on. What change has taken place? This flower, seasonal flower is… Now seasonal changes — winter, summer, spring — everything is going on symmetrically. There is no change. Because it is going on symmetrically, therefore we can say that February, next February will be very nice season here. Why? Because we have got experience last February, so we are certain the same thing will happen in the next February. Therefore we can say. There is no such change. Nature’s way. Prakrteh kriyamanani gunaih karmani. It is very symmetrical. Everything is going on nicely, nature’s way.

Pusta Krsna: One of the strong points of Darwin’s theory…

Prabhupada: I don’t find. Simply foolishness I accept. And rascal, foolish like you, will believe. (laughter)

Pusta Krsna: They argue that five thousand years ago they have no history, so they think that before that time…

Prabhupada: “They think.” That is their rascaldom.

Pusta Krsna: Formerly there was no civilization. Therefore like monkey.

Prabhupada: “They think.” That is their… We don’t “think.” We have got millions of years’ history. Why we shall think with them, with these rascals? They may think, the rascal. A child may think like something, but a elderly man will not think like that. Because they are thinking like that, we have to think with them?

Pusta Krsna: No.

Prabhupada: Then? Because the rascals are thinking in some way, we have to believe that? First of all let them prove that they are sane men. They are all insane rascals. Why shall I take their words? We are taking words from Krsna, who is accepted the Supreme by all the acaryas, all the great sages. Why shall I go to this rascal Darwin? We are not so fools. We cannot accept.

Harikesa: Well, the Bible is just some story. I mean, the Bible is just some story. Why should we believe that all of a sudden there was…

Prabhupada: No, Bible is not authorized because it was compiled after Jesus Christ finished.

Harikesa: No, the Bible was there… Old Testament has been there for thousands of years.

Prabhupada: Old Testament, but what is going on, Bible…

Harikesa: That Genesis, where it says the creation…

Prabhupada: That is another thing.

Harikesa: That’s just some story. Why should we believe it? There’s nothing else to believe. Why not believe this Darwin?

Prabhupada: No, but you are not believing Bible. Bible, they say that the earth is square. So nobody is believing. So one point is sufficient, that it is not perfect. One point is sufficient.

Harikesa: (laughing) It says the earth is square?

Prabhupada: Yes, they… They say it. Formerly they believed that.

Pusta Krsna: Probably does.

Harikesa: Oh, you mean flat.

Prabhupada: You’ll fall down. If you go very far, you’ll fall down. Just like a child thinks. Bible, so many have been proved not authorized. Therefore Bible is not authorized.

Harikesa: So we had this religion, and everybody was saying that this was the correct way, the official policy. So everybody knew this was nonsense. So Darwin is very scientific, so we accept the science.

Prabhupada: What is that science? He said, “By chance, once, nature came.” Is that … ? That is not science. We don’t find, nature’s way, by chance it comes. No. As soon as you talk something nonsense, your whole statement will be accepted as nonsense because you are nonsense. What is the value of your statement? This is our test. Once you say something nonsense, you are wholesale nonsense. That is our test. You cannot say, “I am sorry. It was incorrect,” no. That is not allowed. Then your whole statement is incorrect. This is our… Harikesa: Scientists are always doing that. They’re always saying that.

Prabhupada: Therefore they’re all nonsense.

Harikesa: “Last year we made a mistake. Now it’s all right.”

Prabhupada: “Now we advance.” And what is the guarantee that it is all right? You will advance again. That means you are always incorrect.

Harikesa: But people always think that it’s always getting better.

Prabhupada: Therefore they are rascals. This is called maya. They remain rascal; still, they think that they are advancing.

Harikesa: Nobody thinks about that point, nobody.

Prabhupada: If everyone is rascal, how he will think? We say mudha, all rascals.

Pusta Krsna: But when the early scientists, they were analyzing the body, they tried to find the soul. They would look for the soul in different parts of the body. They couldn’t find it with their

Prabhupada: That’s all right. That is his rascaldom. He’s a rascal. But soul is there. Then find out what is the missing point of a dead man. If there is no soul, something is missing.

Harikesa: Well, actually they’ve pinned it down to a little bit of a molecule that breaks down.

Prabhupada: That’s all right. Bring that molecule.

Harikesa: They’re working on it.

Prabhupada: Huh? Again, “working on it.” You see. This is bluff. This is bluff.

Harikesa: Now they are inventing these different DNA and RNA molecules to change people by injecting them with these different things before they are born, making new people.

Prabhupada: That is not very difficult thing. If you make some vegetable, if you add more sugar it becomes sweet. If you add more salt it becomes salty. That you can do. That is not very difficult. Our question is wherefrom the life comes? That is our… So they do not give any answer to this. That is their foolishness. What is that life? They say life developed from chemical. Now do it. By chemical combination make in one egg and give it to the fomenting machine. What is that? Fomenting machine? They have got heating machine?

Harikesa: Incubator.

Prabhupada: Incubator. Put it there. Then we shall accept your science. Why don’t you do that? Then your all theories are useless. This is practical.
Harikesa: It seems much more practical to make a computer than to make an egg. I mean, a computer…

Prabhupada: Whatever it may be, do it. And from that egg, you get chicken. Then I shall accept that you are scientist. Otherwise you are rascal, talking all madman’s proposal. Do it. Ask them.

Little Help

So everything can be attained simply by chanting this Hare Krsna mantra. Everything. The means is the end and the means is the whole. It is not that we accept something and give it up and again come to another stage. No. If you have got conviction, if you have got faith, if you are strenuous, immediately you are in the platform. Apavitrah pavitro va sarvavastham gato 'pi va. So any stage of life, yah smaret pundarikaksam, anyone who remembers Pundarikaksam, Krsna... (aside:) Sit like this. Yes. Pundarikaksam. Pundarika means lotus; aksam means eyes. Pundarikaksam. Yah smaret pundarikaksam sa bahyabhyantara-sucih. Externally, internally, he becomes immediately purified. So keep on chanting, you keep yourself purified, maya cannot touch you. Maya's contamination will not touch you. Just like if you take vaccine, the infectious disease will not touch you. Similarly, if you keep yourself vaccinated with Krsna consciousness, the maya has no power to touch you. And if you can keep, then you will be accustomed. Just like a child, when he learns walking, he requires little help. He may fall down, but that doesn't matter. He again stands up. Similarly, in the beginning there may be childlike falldown, but if you stick to the position, then one day you'll be able to walk freely, without any hamper. So this mantra, apavitrah pavitro va sarvavastham, any condition of life, you can simply remember Pundarikaksam, Krsna. As soon as you chant "Krsna," you remember everything.
So this remembering is the whole thing. If you have got always within your heart Krsna, by sound or by mental thoughts, by work, some way or other, by reading books, any way, if simply you keep your consciousness in Krsna, then your life is successful. That's all. And in the Bhagavad-gita such person who is keeping always Krsna within himself, he's certified as the greatest of all yogis. Yoginam api sarvesam, "Of all the yogis," mad-gatenantaratmana, "simply who is keeping Me within his heart..."

yoginam api sarvesam
sraddhavan bhajate yo mam
sa me yuktatamo matah
 [Bg. 6.47]

"He's first-class yogi." You don't require to labor and pay somewhere some five dollars, ten dollars, and practice this gymnastic. No. It is not possible. And as soon as you come out, you'll again engage yourself in all nonsense activities. No. The first-class yoga system is to keep yourself always in Krsna consciousness. Then it is always, you are pure. No contamination of this material world can touch you, and you are first-class yogi. All right. (chants fire sacrifice prayers responsively with devotees) Chant Hare Krsna. (end)

"We are the best intelligent class"

So Prahlada Maharaja was very much sympathetic that "I am simply anxious for these rascals who have created a humbug civilization for temporary happiness," maya-sukhaya. Maya-sukhaya bharam udvahato vimudhan [SB 7.9.43]. They have created ugra karma. This is stated in the Bhagavad-gita, ugra karma. Huge factory, day and night melting iron, and they are working, working. The special technologies, getting some money, they're happy. They do not know how they're wasting their valuable life. This is called maya. Why so much work? Why you are working so hard? Do you think if you'll get hundred dollars per day you can eat more capatis than myself? (laughter). Rascal does not know that he will eat the same number of capatis, four or five or six, but he'll work so hard. So we are the best intelligent class. We don't work, but we get our capatis. (laughter) Let the rascal work, but we get our capatis. Maya-sukhaya bharam udvahato vimudhan [SB 7.9.43].

So people sometimes envy us. Gargamuni was telling in Los Angeles that this, some dealers, neighboring dealers, they were asking, "How you get money? You are living in such a nice place and you are eating so nice. Where you get money?" They are envious. So I told Gargamuni that why don't you ask them to come and join? You also eat and dance. Why you are working so hard? That will, they'll not do. This is maya. This is maya. My Guru Maharaja used to say that "The whole country or the city, whole men, let them in, let them come here. I shall provide them with food." But they will not do.

So maya-sukhaya bharam udvahato vimudhan [SB 7.9.43]. Therefore Sukadeva Gosvami is recommending that happiness, material happiness also, is due to pious activities. Unless you are pious, you cannot be happy, even materially. And if you simply commit sins, Rupa Gosvami has analyzed -- you will read in the Nectar of Devotion -- that distress is due to ignorance, simply ignorance. The distress and happiness... Actually you can see those who are not educated fairly, they cannot get any good job. Therefore it is, his distress is due to less, poor fund of knowledge. So actually our distress is due to ignorance and in ignorance only, we commit sinful activities. Therefore our topics began that, prayascittam vimarsanam. We are trying to remove the ignorance of the people, therefore we are giving the best service to the human society. We are simply trying to remove the ignorance. Ceto-darpana-marjanam [Cc. Antya 20.12], we are trying to polish or cleanse the heart. Ceto-darpana-marjanam bhava-maha-davagni-nirvapanam. As soon as the heart is cleansed, the heart that... Now I am indifferently conscious. I am thinking that "I am American," "I am Indian," or "I am this," "I am that." "I have to work, I have got business." So many you have created. But, our process is, our process is to cleanse the heart. That you are nothing of this, you are simply eternal servant of Krsna. You engage yourself as eternal servant of Krsna and become happy. Ceto-darpana-marjanam bhava-maha-davagni-nirvapanam [Cc. Antya 20.12]. Because we are ignorant of our constitutional position we have created all these problems.

Actually there is no problem. Exactly the same example, just like at night in dream we create so many problems, but actually there is no problem. But dreaming, that I am in such and such position, I am being harassed, somebody is taking my money, somebody is pinching me, so many things. I am in the front of tiger, there is ghost, there is so many things. So these problems, actually there is no problem, but by dreaming he is creating, mental. Asango hy ayam purusah, Veda says that this purusa, the atma, the soul has no connection with all these things. So we have created, by material concoction, so many problems. So the whole process is how to cleanse this dreaming condition of life.

Sri Brahma-samhita, Verse 35 -- New York, July 31, 1971

"Best humanitarian work"

Therefore the best humanitarian work is to give knowledge to the humanity, not that one is suffering for want of food and... If I give some food, that is good work, but that is not sufficient. I may give food; that's all right. You give. We also give prasadam free. But that does not mean simply by giving prasadam, we are silent. We give knowledge also. This is Krsna consciousness movement. Food, automatically you have to give. That is... There is no prohibition. But at the same time: knowledge. Without knowledge-giving, if he remains ignorant... Just like the same example. If you have got some children, if you don't give them education, simply feed them, that is not your proper duty. You must give knowledge.
Krsna consciousness movement is therefore giving them knowledge. The first knowledge is that we are trying to convince everyone, following the footprints of Lord Krsna, as He wanted to convince in the very beginning, that dehino 'smin yatha dehe kaumaram yauvanam jara [Bg. 2.13]. This is the first knowledge. One should know that he is not this body. He is spirit soul, different from this body. He is living within this body. This is called knowledge. And at the same time, he should be supplied the necessities of the body.

So much control means no control

Satsvarupa: The scientists can give evidence that so much control has been gained. Now we can fly all over the world...

Prabhupada: Then so much control, that is another thing. But not control. "So much control" means no control. (japa) [break] ...admitted that we are controlled by nature. That you cannot refuse. That is foolishness. Now, next, how nature is working? That is also replied in the Bhagavad-gita, mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram: [Bg. 9.10] "The material nature is working..." Just like we are also taking the advantage of material nature, ksity-ap-tejah. Here is earth, but we can take this earth and make into brick and make a skyscraper building. So it is not that the earth itself is going to become a skyscraper building. I am living entity; I am utilizing. So nature means these five elements, eight elements. So that has been manipulated by another living entity. Just like the aeroplane is a combination of some matter, but it is being worked out by the manufacturer, by the pilot. Therefore that driver of the aeroplane or the manufacturer of the..., he's superior. So superior to the material nature is Krsna. This is the conclusion. [break] ...our position is that we are being controlled by the material nature, and, and nature, material nature, is controlled by Krsna. So the sense is that one who is at all sensible, that "After all, the controller is Krsna. So why not directly under control of Krsna?" This is Krsna consciousness. Why through the material nature? I have to be controlled. I am being controlled by the material nature; and material nature is being controlled by Krsna. So why not being directly controlled? This is good sense.

One chanting of Krsna is sufficient

Now you can try to understand how powerful is this pure chanting of Hare Krsna mantra.Offenseless chanting of Hare Krsna mantra means you remain liberated always. Offenseless chanting, once chanting is sufficient. But because we are not offenseless, therefore we have to make a regulated program that we must chant Hare Krsna so many times. Otherwise one chanting of Krsna is sufficient to make you liberated, one chant, "Krsna," "Rama," once, that's all, sufficient. Just like this Ajamila. Once he chanted Narayana. He became immediately liberated because he was offenseless.

But because we cannot do that, therefore we have to make a prescription. Just like a child who cannot write very good hand. He is asked that "You write so many pages." By writing, writing, writing, writing, writing, he writes good hand. So we should not neglect. Chanting, chanting, chanting... An other... This is one side. Another side is when you become liberated the chanting will give you transcendental pleasure so that you cannot cease. You cannot cease chanting. That is another side. That is liberated stage, just like Rupa Gosvami, Haridasa Thakura. You cannot imitate Haridasa Thakura but you must make a prescribed form that "I must chant so many times." That is for conditioned soul. When you are liberated, then there is no need of giving you direction. You'll feel transcendental pleasure by chanting. You cannot cease.

Trees also should be given protection

"......trees also should be given protection. During its lifetime, a tree should not be cut for industrial enterprises. In Kali-yuga, trees are indiscriminately and unnecessarily cut for industry, in particular for paper mills that manufacture a profuse quantity of paper for the publication of demoniac propaganda, nonsensical literature, huge quantities of newspapers and many other paper products. This is a sign of a demoniac civilization. The cutting of trees is prohibited unless necessary for the service of Lord Visnu. Yajnarthat karmano'nyatra loko'yam karma-bandhanah: [Bg. 3.9]) "work done as a sacrifice for Lord Visnu must be performed, otherwise work binds one to this material world." But if the paper mills stop producing paper, one may argue, how can our ISKCON literature be published? The answer is that the paper mills should manufacture paper only for the publication of ISKCON literature because ISKCON literature is published for the service of Lord Visnu. This literature clarifies our relationship with Lord Visnu, and therefore the publication of ISKCON literature is the performance of yajna. Yajnarthat karmano 'nyatra loko 'yam karma-bandhanah [Bg. 3.9]). Yajna must be performed, as indicated by the superior authorities. The cutting of trees simply to manufacture paper for the publication of unwanted literature is the greatest sinful act."

We are the best social worker.

Reporter (1): Some of the objections are that the followers of the Hare Krsna sect are, on the streets or in the airports, are bothering people.

Prabhupada: The airport itself is a botheration, so much sound, so much accident. So why this little botheration they cannot tolerate? That means intolerance. It is full of botheration, and because we are chanting, they very much disturbed? We don't chant in the airport, but we ask people that "Here is a very good book. You will benefit. If you like, you can take." So what is the wrong there? Tell me what is the wrong? If I give you something very nice, is that, I mean to say, wrong? You read any book. We have got fifty books. You find out any fault in that. If we are distributing something, bad literature which is against the social welfare, then you can object. But you see. Bring all our books here, and you will see. Any page you open and you will find something good. Why you are denying to distribute such literature for the benefit of the people in general? What is the wrong there?

Reporter (1): One of the things that people say is that the devotees are asking for donations, not just distributing books but asking for money, that that's a bother.

Prabhupada: But he pays. If he feels botheration, why does he pay? One who feels botheration, he does not pay. But one who thinks that "Here is a nice book. All right, let me take it," why you take this botheration? If it is botheration, how they are purchasing? They are paying their money, hard-earned money. Do you think they are bothered at the same time they pay? (laughter)

Reporter (1): Yes. That's a fact.

Prabhupada: These are all manufactured things.

Reporter (2): Why does the Hare Krsna movement not engage in social protest?

Prabhupada: We are the best social worker. People are fools and rascals. We are teaching them nice idea of God consciousness. We are the best social worker. We will stop all crimes. What is your social work? Producing hippies and criminals. That is not social work. Social work means the population must be very peaceful, wise, intelligent, God conscious, first-class man. That is social work. If you produce some fourth-class, fifth-class, tenth-class of men what is social work? We are producing that. Just see. Here is first-class man. They do not have any bad habit, illicit sex, intoxication, meat eating, or gambling. They are all young men. They are not addicted to all these things. This is social work.

How we should pray to Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva to sit in our hearts

Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and bhāgavata-dharma are meant for persons who are completely free of envy (parama-nirmatsarāṇām). Therefore Prahlāda Mahārāja prays in this verse, khalaḥ prasīdatām: "May all the envious persons be pacified."
The material world is full of envious persons, but if one frees himself of envy, he becomes liberal in his social dealings and can think of others' welfare. Anyone who takes up Kṛṣṇa consciousness and engages himself completely in the service of the Lord cleanses his mind of all envy (manas ca bhadram bhajatād adhokṣaje).
Therefore we should pray to Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva to sit in our hearts. We should pray, bahir nṛsiṁho hṛdaye nṛsiṁhaḥ: "Let Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva sit in the core of my heart, killing all my bad propensities. Let my mind become clean so that I may peacefully worship the Lord and bring peace to the entire world."
